Video Slots - the Mercedes of Slots Games
Video Slots are the most complicated of all slots games. They can be the most fascinating and exciting of all the slots games, but due to the multiple pay lines, it is most important to read all the detailed explanations of the winning pay lines and the various added symbols before starting to play.
How Video Slots are Different
A Video Slot differs from a standard 3 or 5 reel slots game in several ways:
The graphics and audio sounds are far better and more exciting than the standard slots games.
They generally have a theme, a story, which is actually part of the game. The symbols and pay lines and bonus features are all part of the game theme.
Most Video Slots have interactive screens that open up when certain symbols show up on any one of the reels.
Video Slots can have from three to five reels and as many as forty pay lines.
Because of the many pay lines, most Video Slots start with a coin size of one cent and a maximum coin size of a quarter.
How to Play Video Slots
After having read the detailed descriptions of pay lines and the explanations of the various bonus features, the first thing a player must decide is what coin size to play. If a game has forty pay lines and five reels, and the player has chosen ten cents as his coin size, the maximum bet he can make is 200 (40 x 5) coins. 200 coins at ten cents each is a maximum bet of $20, but he has the possibility to win 100,000 coins which would give him $10,000. Not bad at all!
The player does not have to bet the maximum each time. He can choose the number of coins he wants to play and the number of pay lines he plans to bet.
Once this is done, he presses the "Spin" button and the reels will spin until they stop. This activity is controlled by a computer random number generator just as in the standard slots games. The winning payout is determined by which symbols and how many land along the pay lines.
Scatter Symbols, Wild Cards, Bonus Symbols, Free Spins, Multipliers and Gamble Features
All of the above features are what make Video Slots really exciting and different from the standard slots games.
Scatter Symbols: These are extra symbols in the game which can substitute for any symbol to create a winning line or they can pay out independently. It all depends on where they lay "scattered" across the screen.
Wild Card: This is a wild symbol which acts like a wild card in any game. It can substitute for any symbol or, in some cases, it can just pay out a bonus.
Bonus Symbols: The shape and form of the Bonus Symbols depends on the story theme of the game being played. The Bonus Symbols often open up a bonus screen which is interactive. The player may have to make some choice or perhaps fit puzzle pieces together in order to achieve his bonus. Some bonus screens offer choices of free spins or multipliers.
Mulitipliers: These are a bonus which multiply winnings made in spins - sometimes doubling them, sometimes even more.
Gamble Feature: Not all Video Slots offer this feature. A Gamble button lights up on the screen and gives the player a chance to double his winnings, if he so chooses, by designating if a card is black or red. If the player does not choose to gamble, he simply collects.
Some Video Slots Games
A few exciting Video Slots powered by Microgaming's state-of-the-art graphics and sounds are:
Isis: a mythology theme with the Goddess Isis at the center and many mysterious symbols such as magic eyes, amulets and flying hawks.
Twister: with a tornado storm theme and scatter symbols from Mother Nature.
Avalon: based on the story of the Lady of the Lake with treasure chests opening for big bonuses.
