Play Baccarat like Bond

When Ian Fleming wrote Casino Royale, he introduced two new subjects to millions of people: British Secret Agent James Bond and the game of Baccarat. While Bond was just a figment of Fleming’s imagination, the game of Baccarat is real and played in casinos around the world. Today, thanks to Microgaming, you can play Baccarat online twenty-four hours a day, from anywhere in the world.

Baccarat Basics

Don’t worry, you don’t have to be an experienced gambler to play Baccarat. All you need to know is some basic Baccarat rules and strategy. Here’s how it works: The dealer deals two hands of two cards each, face up. Each hand is added together. If the resulting total is more than ten, whatever digit is in the ten’s column is dropped out. So a fourteen becomes a four, a seventeen becomes a seven, and so forth. Then, if your total is higher than the dealer’s, you win. So you see, the best total to have is a nine. Nothing beats a nine.

Bet on the Dealer?

In Baccarat, you can actually bet on the dealer’s hand winning. The Dealer is really called the Banker, but that is of no consequence. Which hand do you bet on and how much you wager depends on what cards are showing and what your strategy is. A good strategy is to bet on the hand that adds up to a natural eight or nine. Almost every time, it will either be the winning hand or the hands will be tied, resulting in a push. While a push isn’t a win, you get your money back and can play again.

Now if a third card is being dealt, bet on the hand that has the lower added total unless it is below five. Below five will most likely go over ten and be stuck with a low number. A total between five and nine will either come very close to nine, or come close to nineteen. That is because you have a very good chance of getting a ten card. Tens and face cards (Kings, Queens, Jacks) count as zero. There are sixteen of these cards in a standard deck. So sixteen out of fifty-two cards or roughly one quarter of the deck, do not affect the game at all. If you have a low total and a ten, you will still have a low total. A high total will remain high. The game is not Blackjack where a high total makes you bust and you lose.

Baccarat Odds

Baccarat is governed by both odds and time. Placing smaller bets when natural eights and nines come up is a much lower risk strategy than placing a huge bet on a single round. But the way you play Baccarat depends on your personality. If you want to shoot for more money in a shorter time and can afford to take some loses, go for it.
