Learning How to Play French Roulette is a Key to Knowing How to Win

French roulette is a game of chance (like craps or the slots) so no one can tell you exactly how to win these casino games. Instead, you should learn the rules, familiarize yourself with the layout and the different bets, and feel comfortable at the roulette table. Playing online for free is a good way to get used to the game and a way to learn how to win. In online French roulette, you can either play one-on-one against the computerized French roulette wheel or you can play in a game that more closely simulates a real French roulette game (a live-dealer game). In either case, a European/French roulette wheel has 37 slots (the 36 numbers and one zero).

The rules of French roulette are simple: You place your bet on numbers (including zero) on the table layout (an inside bet) or on the outside (an outside bet), and when everybody at the table is finished betting, the croupier spins the wheel, throws in the ball and, a few moments before the ball is about to drop over the slots, he yells, “No more bets.” From that instant, the universal rule is that no one is allowed to place - or change - his bet. Only after the croupier places the marker on the winning number on the French roulette table layout and clears all the losing bets, can another round of betting begin.

The French Have Their Unique Rules

There are all kinds of bets in French roulette. This is the case with all types of roulette, but French roulette has some exclusive rules, as well. An example of one of these rules is the En Prison rule. This rule applies to even-money bets only. When the outcome is zero, some casinos will allow the player to either take back half his bet or leave the bet “imprisoned” for another spin. In the second case, if the outcome of the next spin is again zero, then the whole bet is lost.

There is another rule similar to the En Prison rule called the La Partage rule. This rule also applies to even money bets and is also activated when the ball lands on zero, only in this case the player loses half the bet and does not have the option of leaving the bet in prison (locked up) for another spin. An even-money bet is red/black, high/low, odd/even. It should be noted that both the La Partage and the En Prison French roulette rules cut the casino edge on the even-money bets in half. So a bet on Even on a single-zero French roulette table with the La Partage or “En Prison” rule has a 1.35% house edge and one on a 00 French roulette table has a house edge of 2.63%.
